Biography
Assist Prof. Athanasios Gelasakis (male) is an Assistant Professor of Farm Animal Diseases at the laboratory of Anatomy and Physiology, Department of Animal Science, School of Animal Biosciences, Agricultural University of Athens (May 2018-present). He holds a PhD in animal management, health and welfare from the School of Veterinary Medicine, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2011), and a BSc from the same school (2005). He received a MSc in Public Health from the National School of Public Health in Athens (2014) and he is a diplomate of the European College of Small Ruminant Health Management (Dipl. ECSRHM). He has participated in 27 national and international research projects and has published as an author 40 publications in peer-reviewed journals, three book chapters and >120 publications in conference proceedings.
Research Interests
His research activity is related to animal diseases, health and welfare, as well as the breeding of productive animals, the management of livestock farms and their correlation with animal productivity and the sustainability of farms. Finally, his research includes the use of the sciences of veterinary epidemiology and biostatistics for the elaboration and evaluation of observations on animal health and well-being and their management at the level of breeding, but also on public health issues (animal-human diseases, foodborne diseases).
