Kostas Mountzouris is an Associate Professor of animal nutritional biotechnology at the Agricultural University of Athens (AUA) in Greece. He holds a BSc in animal nutrition, from AUA and has obtained his MSc & Ph.D in food and agricultural biotechnology from the University of Reading in UK. His teaching activities focus in animal nutritional physiology, gut ecology and aspects related to nutrition and health. Current research interests involve the study of the effects of probiotics and bioactive food/feed substances on target biological responses of animals with emphasis on gut performance indices and the evaluation of their efficacy as alternatives to antibiotic growth promoters in animal nutrition. Kostas has been collaborating with academic and industrial partners in developing and tailoring bioactive feed additive applications in animal nutrition. In multiple instances, he has been appointed as an expert evaluator of research proposals submitted under the EC research framework programmes and has peered reviewed research manuscripts for more than thirty scientific journals. He has authored and co-authored several research papers, book chapters and conference abstracts.
