Research

Research Areas

The scientific subject of the Department is clearly interdisciplinary as it combines Genetics, Nutrition, Physiology, Molecular Biology, Technology, Hygiene, Biotechnology, Ethology and Management.

Consequently, the research activity of the Department covers a significant range of scientific topics, which are treated by the Laboratories of Anatomy & Physiology of Farm Animals, Animal Breeding & Husbandry, Applied Hydrobiology and Nutritional Physiology & Feeding.

The research is carried out individually by each laboratory of the Department, with collaborations between laboratories, as well as with interdepartmental (within the Agricultural University of Athens) or inter-institutional (with other universities in the country or abroad) collaborations.

The research activities in the laboratory facilities of the Department of Animal Science are conducted under specific safety rules for the facilities, the staff (members of the Faculty, undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral students) as well as the visiting researchers.
