Prerequisite

for the assignment of a dissertation topic according to article 34 of the Internal Regulation of the AUA “…is the successful completion of the educational process of the first 8 semesters of the standard study programs. As an exception, the assignment of a dissertation to students who, after the end of the 8th semester exams, fail a maximum of three courses (courses and laboratory practicals) of the first eight semesters is permitted.”

Student actions before assigning a dissertation topic:

  1. Electronic application on the website https://estudent.aua.gr
  2. Presentation of the relevant official note (certificate No. 22) “assignment of dissertation topic” to the supervisor so that the supervisor-faculty member can then define the dissertation topic and establish a three-member examination committee.

Assignment Procedures

Department Actions:

  1. Approval of the dissertation topic by the Department’s Assembly.
  2. Transmission of the dissertation topic to the Central Office of AUA as follows:

For the correct entry of data in the system, the form on which the relevant data for the dissertation topic will be entered must be typed and not handwritten.

In parallel, the following must be entered:

The dissertation topic (typed and not handwritten), the date of the Department’s Assembly, the three-member advisory and examination committee and the student’s supervisor. According to article 34 of the Internal Regulation, “The entire process of assigning diploma dissertations is ultimately approved by the Assembly of the Department to which the laboratory of the supervisor belongs. The approved topics, together with the respective names of the students and the names of the 3-member committees, are notified in the form of a list to the Department Secretariat”

Based on the above, the said lists and the forms of the diploma dissertations will be forwarded to the Central Office of AUA with an accompanying document signed by the Head of the Department (for Departments that do not have Sectors) through the Central Protocol of the University.

Evaluation & Grading of Diploma Dissertation

In accordance with the article 34 of the Internal Regulation of AUA, “The examination of the dissertation takes place after the successful fulfillment of all the student’s examination obligations, as determined by the standard curricula of the first 9 semesters”

Necessary actions that the student must take before evaluation and grading of the dissertation:

  1. Electronic application on the website https://estudent.aua.gr for the issuance of a certificate (No. 10) that she/he has the right to forward her/his dissertation for evaluation and grading to the supervising Professor of the examination committee.
  2. Submission of certificates of practical training at the Central Office of AUA (total of 120 days).
