Associate Professor
Farm Animal Diseases
Dr. Athanasios Gelasakis (male) is an Associate Professor of Farm Animal Diseases at the Laboratory of Anatomy and Physiology, Department of Animal Science, School of Animal Biosciences, Agricultural University of Athens (May 2018-present). He holds a PhD in animal management, health and welfare from the School of Veterinary Medicine, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2011), and a BSc from the same school (2005). He received a MSc in Public Health from the National School of Public Health in Athens (2014) and he is an active diplomate of the European College of Small Ruminant Health Management (Dipl. ECSRHM) since 2014. He has participated in 34 national and international research projects (in 10 of them as coordinator) and has published as an author 84 publications in peer-reviewed journals, five book chapters, and >150 publications in conference proceedings.
He has extended experience in farm animal diseases, health and welfare, husbandry, management and nutrition and their association with productivity, and sustainability of livestock farms. Finally, his research involves the development of laboratory and field diagnostics, the use of veterinary epidemiology and biostatistics for the elaboration and evaluation of observations on animal health and welfare and their management at the farm level, as well as the study of public health issues within the One Health approach (zoonoses, foodborne diseases).
