Biography

Professor of Chemistry at the Laboratory of Nutritional Physiology & Feeding and President of the board of the Hellenic Agricultural Organization DEMETER. His research interests concern the «Chemistry of natural and synthetic bioactive products», covering objectives in the fields of Natural Products valorization, Food Chemistry, Environment, Circular Economy and development of novel Pharmaceuticals and Biocides. He has authored 148 publications in international scientific journals and books. He is editor of the Journal of Chemistry and the International Journal of Functional Nutrition.

Research Focus

  • Natural products – environment (i. isolation-valorization of bioactive molecules and extracts from greek flora, ii. management & valorization of agricultural wastes-byproducts, iii. mitigation of the climate change consequences in agriculture)
  • Foods (i. development of novel food additives-supplements, ii. exploitation-certification of greek traditional agricultural products, iii. development of novel functional foods)
  • Biomedical applications of organic chemistry for the development of novel molecules with anti-estrogenic and anti-angiogenic activities.
